There have been countless newspaper and magazine articles written about the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum Robbery and numerous books. There are many theories and this one is mine.
Robert Whittman, a former FBI agent who I believe came closer to the truth than anyone else, said “Everything you have read or heard about the Gardner theft is Bullshit”. I agree with him. The suspects show cased thus far by the newspapers and law enforcement range from mobsters, the IRA to weed-smoking art students. Whittman was hot on the trail of a couple of the missing Gardner masterpieces in 2008 but was unsuccessful due to interference by two of his FBI supervisors.
Authors Tom Mashberg and Ulrich Boser who have both written extensively about the theft have said that the quest to solve the Gardner heist is like doing cocaine, it quickly becomes addictive and can take over your life. I know what they mean, I was pulled into it due to a bout of insomnia and after that, it took on a life of its own.
I became an avid Gardnerologist.
